Mountain Biking

Bicycling in the White Mountains

Remember hopping on your bike when you were a kid and heading out for a day's adventure with your friends? While the hopping part might be out of the question these days, biking is still a fun activity and we have mountain biking and multi-use trails suitable for every ability from easy rides to challenging hilly terrain with twists and turns.

Mountain BikingA network of 22 miles of mountain biking trails give lots of opportunities for varied terrain for riders who tackle the PRKR Mountain trails in Littleton. Parking to access the trails is close to downtown, on School Street.

The multi-use Franconia Notch Recreation Path is a paved trail used by bikers and walkers, but provides enough twists, turns and hills to satisfy anyone navigating the trail by bike. The trail is also adjacent to many White Mountains attractions: Echo Lake, the Flume Gorge, the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway and the Old Man of the Mountain Historic Site.

The Cross New Hampshire Adventure Trail stretches from Woodsville, NH to Bethel, Maine, but can be accessed at various points along the way. The trail traverses dirt roads, scenic back roads and existing rail trails. The Presidential Rail Trail from Whitefield to Gorham is especially scenic.

Bike rentals are available at the Littleton Bike Shop (which also sponsors weekly rides) and Drummond's Mountain Shop in Bretton Woods.
